The Hancock County Board of education voted to approve a new position, Coordinator of Safety Services, for the County School System at Monday’s meeting. Prior to the vote being taken on the position, Board Member Jerome Spencer recused himself from voting by leaving the room. The Board then unanimously approved the position with a 4-0 vote. Spencer gave no reason for leaving the room prior to the vote, but his absence suggests he may have a conflict of interest, or have a pecuniary interest in the position and be a candidate for the job.
One of Weir High’s best football players who went on to play for WVU and pro-football leagues. will return to his alma mater to take the reins of its football program Quincy Wilson was approved by the Board and will return to the area to assume his duties.
Timothy (T J) Miller a teacher in the Hancock County who deals with IT issues was named as Oak Glen’s head football coach.
In other action, the Board:
**Granted a leave of absence to Patricia Boniti and Anna Grimm;
**Assigned the following coaching positions: WEIR HIGH – Assistant Baseball – Nicodemus Karas; OAK GLEN – Head Cross Country – Travis Simpson; Lindsay Spilecki – asst, Cross Country
**Approval was given for Candice Dotson to work with the Weir Hich Entrepreneurship Club;
**The resignations of Douglas Jackson and Mary Kimberland as county-wide substitute teachers were accepted;
**Approved volunteer/chaperones for the WHS Dance Team who will travel to Pigeon Fork were Shauna Musulin Smanda Soplinsky, Willette Hoover, Willetta Hoover, Jennifer Fayak, Christine Vrtr, Shelley Delanta-Amos.
**Approved as chaperones for the WHS Softball Treav traveling to Pigeon Fork was Willetta Hoover;
The Board will meet Monday, Feb. 24 at 5 p.m. for Calendar Hearing and on 5:30 that day for a regular meeting
