The Oak Glen High School’s Lions Club Scholar for March 2025 is Alexander Marchese. Alex lives in New Cumberland with his parents (Jennifier and Robert Marchese), his brother (Gabe), and his two cats. Alex has been a member of the band for 4 years where he has received many honors. Alex is a skilled musician who is a three-time All State Musician, a three-time Region 1 Honor Band member, a two-time member of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra Side-By-Side Program and has played at West Liberty University for both Honor Band and Fall Concert Band. Alex has also been recognized as a leader and role model in the band by being a two-time recipient of the Espirt De Corps award and the 2023 Most Outstanding Sophomore award.
Alex is also involved in other school clubs and organizations like Prom Committee, Culture Club, Recorder Ensemble, National Honor Society, and Student Council where he serves as the Senior Class Treasurer. In prior years, Alex participated in theater, served as the Freshman Class Treasurer, and graduated from the Weirton Chamber of Commerce Youth Leadership program. Alex is passionate about his country, having won the Voice of Democracy VFW competition. In one of his proudest achievements, Alex was selected to represent Oak Glen at West Virginia Boys State where he was elected Treasurer out of a group of over 200 other students.
While maintaining a 4.08 GPA and achieving a 1400 SAT score, Alex has worked diligently to acquire over one and a half semesters of college credit. Alex loves his teachers and loves learning in general. Alex plans to attend West Liberty University to study Community Education and minor in music. While attending college, he wants to take online bible classes through Nazarene Bible College so that he can be a pastor after he graduates. Alex’s time in college is going to be spent improving and learning in every area possible so that he can emerge fully prepared to maximize his potential.
Alex’s advice to his teachers and peers is:
“Life is going to pass by no matter what, so start living the life you want to live. The only person stopping you is…you. Hard work (towards the things that really matter) and consistency will beat any obstacle in time. Just start! Rome wasn’t built in a day, but they didn’t wait to lay the first brick. Go live life for you! I believe in you!”
