The Hancock County School Board will meet Thursday, March 20 at 1 p.m. at the JDRIV Vocational Center to discuss the process of replacing Board Member Gerard Spencer who has submitted his resignation. Spencer, Sargeant in the Weirton Police Department, has tendered his resignation from that position as well to take the position of Safety Coordinator for the Hancock County Board of Education.
State law prohibits a Board of Education member from being an employee of the school system it oversees. In the last resignation the Board received, the Board advertised the vacancy for two weeks countywide and then interviewed candidates who submitted letters of interest. Larry Shaw served to fill out that vacancy
