SHERIFF’S OFFICE & CHESTER POLICE DISCOVER DRUGS at TRAFFIC STOP

On Tuesday, May 20th and Wednesday, May 21st, Hancock County Sheriff’s Deputies with the assistance of the Chester Police Department were performing drug interdiction in the northern part of the county. As a result of their efforts, crystal methamphetamine, fentanyl and crack cocaine were removed from our community.

In the attached photographs you can see approximately 4.5 grams of crystal methamphetamine, 1 gram of powdered fentanyl and 4 fentanyl pills of different colors pressed into the shape of a Transformer logo. These drugs were taken from just one traffic stop. Additional drugs were seized from several other traffic stops.

While any of these drugs could potentially be fatal, it is the fentanyl made into what looks like candy that is of the gravest concern. It is a shame that parents must have conversations with their children telling them that drugs like this exist and that today the old saying “never take candy from a stranger” has taken on an entirely new meaning.

The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office has zero tolerance for this and for as long as drugs like this are in our community, we will continue to proactively seek out and to arrest those responsible for bringing them here.

Additionally, the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office is proud of our deputies and their dedication toward removing these drugs from our communities despite the risks they expose themselves to while doing so. The drugs seen in this release were discovered during a traffic stop made based on a brake light that was out as well as a seatbelt violation. While these reasons to stop the vehicle may seem trivial to some, we can assure you that these types of offenses are not our most serious concern when conducting our work.

The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office would also like to thank our community for their support and patience as we work toward achieving our shared goal of making our communities safer and a great place to live and work.
