A small amendment to a school policy on coaching could mean big changes. The Hancock County Board of Education voted to post the policy on its website for 30 days. for public comment. The amendment to the current policy (GSA Coaching) would allow a head principal to serve as coach.
The policy will then be brought back to the Board for vote. The two high school principals, Ted Arneault and Frank Crain, would be then be permitted to coach their schools teams. Arneault served as Oak Glen High’s head football coach while Crain was active in wrestling.
Board member Ed Fields noted that the principles have a full plate (of duties) and would have to be convinced that they would have time to do both jobs.
Superintendent Dan Enich recognized Maizey Cooper from Allison Elementary as the winner of the Smart 529 “When I Grow Up” essay contest. The program is sponsored by the State Treasurer’s Office.
The Oak Glen Girls’ Softball Team was honored and presented a certificate acknowledging their achievement of winning the State Championship.
