Hugh “Mack” McAbee,81 of Follansbee, passed away Tuesday June 24, 2025. He was born on July 12, 1943, the son of the late Harry and Oliane (Whaley) McAbee. Besides his parents, he was Preceded in death by his wife, Carol McAbee; six sisters, Mary Kelly, Jean Hawkey, Ruth Stimpak, Nancy Wright, Vonda Moore and Virginia Gijtka.
Mack retired from Painters Union Local 438. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed camping.
He is survived by a daughter, Margaret (Jim) Shorts of Wellsburg, a granddaughter, Caitlyn and a great-granddaughter. He is also survived by two brothers, Dave McAbee of New Cumberland and Harry McAbee of Colliers; a sister Patricia Ingram of WV. ; a niece and care giver, Janet Speece of New Cumberland and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at the Nixon Funeral Home of Newell, from 2 pm to 6 pm where funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 am. Interment will follow at New Cumberland Cemetery. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Trinity West 7th floor nurses and staff and to Valley Hospice.
