New Cumberland City Council voted to implement an increase on both water and sewage rates at Monday’s meeting. According to Mayor Will White, the increases were necessitated by the City being written up for three years in a row for insufficient funds being maintained in those accounts . Sufficient funds must also be maintained to support the bonds.
Council approved the 2nd reading of ordinance 25-003 Rate increase for Water system. The rate for a minimum for 2000 gallons is $32. 34 ($15.70 per 1,000 gallon). Resale rate will be $15.70 per 1,000 gallons. Residents must pay the minimum of 2,000 gallons.
Council also approved the 2nd reading of ordinance 25-004 Rate increase for Sewage system. The minimum of 2,000 gallons is 41.80
Council also approved of Ordinance 25-005 which calls for the abandonment of a portion of Jackson Street,
Voting in favor of all three ordinances were Council members JoEllen Kessel, Missy Perkins and Penny Spilecki. Two Council members were absent.
Mayor White announced the winners of the Yard of the Month were Bill and Diane Wells in Eden Valley.
Council will meet again Tuesday, Sept. 2 since Monday will fall on Labor Day.
