Hancock County teachers report for duty August 18 with Hancock County students reporting August 22 for a full-day of school. Superintendent Dan Enich said schools are ready and a new security system is in place.
Enich said it had been a productive summer with numerous project completed at numerous schools. He recognized Kasey Arnott, director of maintenance, who had shepherded the projects to completion. Board Vice President Ed Fields noted that as a retiree, he visited the construction sites almost every day and he, too, commended Arnott for juggling many projects.
Enich said the pyrite project at Oak Glen Middle School is several weeks from completion. The dirt has been dug out under the floor and will be ready to pour concrete soon.
In other projects the parking lots at Oak Glen is complete and Weir High is nearing completion. Enich said three visitors’ stations have been marked off at Weirton Elementary. He said he watched as mothers parked at the top of the hill and carried babies, backpacks and their student down the hill. This way they can simply pull up to the school to deliver the student to school.
Enich announced the opening football game will be Oak Glen vs Weir High at Weir High Aug. 28. It will be WTOV’s game of the week.

**Accepted the resignation of Kelsey Cole as Substitute Aide;
**Approved Noah Toomey as Electrician II, Maintenance Dept.;
**Removed Alissa Hill, cook II, Weirton Elementary, from the RIF list;*
**Acceepted the resignation of Jennifer McCoy as LPN/Aide at Oak Glen High;
**Entered into a memorandum of understanding with The Children’s Academy, Weirton Heights Daycare and Northern Panhandle Head Start to prove WV Universal Pre-K Classrooms;
**Granted permission for Weir High Cross Country team to travel to Cabell Midland High School on August 30 and return August 31;
**Granted permission for Oak Glen Middle Volleyball to travel to Clarksburg for the Hilltopper Invitational on Sept. 26 and return Sept. 27;
**Granted permission for the Weir High Baseball Team to travel to Myrtle Beach March 27 and retur April 1.
