Hancock County Commission Elects Chek President

The Hancock County Commission held its reorganization meeting for 2026. Eron Chek was once again chosen as Commission President while Commissioner Paul Cowey will serve as President Pro-Tempore.

Personnel for 2026 were approved, but the Commission did not address appointments to the various boards. Traditionally, Commissioners divide up the 12 Boards and one Commissioner serves as a non-voting member of that Board. The Boards range from the Top of WV CVB, 4-H Foundation to the Northern Panhandle Resource and Conservation & Development Council. Absent from this year’s list was the Business Development Corp. Previously, one Commissioner would serve on the group’s executive committee.

In other business, the Commission:

**Acknowledged that 9 Opioid Fund requests had been received. The requests will be voted on at the March 26 meeting;

**Approved a grant contract agreement with the Division of Administrative Services, Justice and Community Services;

**Approved the 2026 IRS Standard Mileage Rate of $0.725 per mile;

**Approved general county bills of $131,995.99 and purchasing card bills of $19,772.52;

**Set the next regular meeting for January 22 at 2:30 p.m.
