To clarify the policy of Hometown News in regard to commentary, letters to the editor, OP-ED and advertising in regard to our publication and Facebook page:
The Facebook page is intended to provide information regarding events and share only a small section of an article which ran in our newspaper. If readers wish to read an entire article, they need to purchase a subscription. No political commentary is permitted on our Facebook page.
Hometown News accepts Letters to the Editor. The letter needs to be signed by the individual writing it along with the writer’s phone number and address. That allows us to call the writer to make sure he/she was the author.
We also accept OP-EDs with the same safeguards as in letters to the editor.
The policy of this paper in regards to political letters: We will cease publishing letters regarding candidates 2 months prior to the May primary. We will accept paid political advertising (which can be linked to the candidate’s website) up until the day prior to the election. All ads must include the “paid for by………..” line.
Please note that I am a former Democratic Executive Committee Chair and Democratic legislator. I fully support both parties sharing their views as long as they adhere to the rules and regulations set forth by the Secretary of State’s Election Division and the policy of our newspaper.
