WHEELING, W.VA – In partnership with local industry partners, West Virginia Northern Community College (WVNCC) is launching a new associate in applied science (A.A.S.) degree program in Advanced Manufacturing and Automation this fall at its Weirton campus, expanding workforce education and training opportunities in manufacturing to meet growing industry demand in the Northern Panhandle.
This new degree is part of the College’s M.A.P.S. 2.0 regional grant initiative, funded by the US Department of Labor, to build a skilled workforce pipeline for the next generation of manufacturing and energy production, focused on technologies like advanced automation and robotics.
“As manufacturing continues to evolve in our region, so too must the skills of our workforce,” said WVNCC President Dr. Daniel Mosser. “This program is designed to prepare students for modern, high-tech careers in manufacturing while supporting the economic revitalization of our region.”
The launch comes at a critical time for the region, as companies such as Form Energy expand operations in Weirton and surrounding areas, bringing hundreds of new jobs in advanced manufacturing and energy production. These careers require specialized training in automated systems, robotics, and advanced production technologies.
The Advanced Manufacturing and Automation degree provides students with hands-on training aligned with industry skill needs. Students gain experience working with modern manufacturing equipment and technologies while building a strong foundation in:
