Concerns Merit Response

Haylianne Murray spoke to the Hancock County Board of Education Monday evening about the life-threatening situation which could exist for her son if the full-time nurse was not returned to Oak Glen High School. She explained her son has an Ascending Aortic Aneurism, a life-threatening condition due to the possible dissection of the aorta.

Hometown News sent an e-mail to Superintendent Walt Saunders asking if the school administration would be reconsidering due to this information. We are told that Saunders is on vacation this week, but would hope he would be checking e-mails. Just in case, however, we placed a call to Personnel Director Jennifer Marchese to alert her to our e-mail to Saunders or to see if she could respond. We received no response to either attempt.

The Murrays’ concerns deserve a response. Their son is indeed entitled to the same free, public education as his non-disabled peers under the law. Let’s hope the State Board of Education guiding Hancock County takes swift action to resolve this matter and acknowledge the severity of the situation,
