NEW CUMBERLAND, WV — One man is dead following a single-vehicle crash on Route 8 yesterday. An
off-duty Chester Police officer reported the crash after he witnessed the vehicle veer off the left side of
the road approximately one-fourth of a mile south of Allison Road. The vehicle struck a tree and
overturned, causing the driver to be trapped inside. Personnel from New Manchester and Lawrenceville
volunteer fire departments worked to free the driver, 19 year-old Nathan Severs of Negley, Ohio, from
the wreckage before he was prepared to be flown to a regional trauma center. Severs’s condition
deteriorated, and he was unable to be flown. He was instead transported by personnel from Hancock
County Ambulance Service with assistance from the STAT Medevac crew to East Liverpool City Hospital
where he succumbed to his injuries.
Traffic in the area was delayed for approximately two hours while emergency personnel worked on
scene. Further details of the crash are under investigation by the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office.
