CHESTER GARDEN CLUB MEETS

CHESTER – The Chester Garden Club held its monthly meeting at The Family Kitchen and Smokehouse on April 24. Vice President Susie Wilson led the group in The Pledge of Allegiance and conducted the meeting. Donna Stevens led members in The Garden Club Prayer, read “The Smile,” and gave the blessing before the meal.  Paige Rayle distributed copies of the minutes from the March 27th meeting. Mary Ann Wright gave the treasurer’s report.

Wright reported that the Chester Street Department would remove six large trees from the Richmond Garden the first week in May. The large pines are overtaking too large an area in the garden.

Following a discussion, additions and changes were made to the initial draft of the club’s bylaws. Members will vote to approve the updated bylaws at the May meeting.

Wilson reported that the club’s fundraiser jigsaw puzzle, “Almost Heaven, Log Cabin” is still available for sale at Davis Brother’s Pharmacy and Lynn Murray Memorial Library for $20.

Ki Trelaine reported that she has 3 spikes, 20 geraniums, and enough vincas for all the Chester planters flourishing in her growing room. The planting committee will select and possibly purchase the remainder of flowers needed for the flower pots before the May meeting. Wright suggested that the group work on finding a small plant that could survive year round without interfering with the other seasonal decorations so that the planters would not be bare from February through May.

The group will visit Randy’s Raisings during the month of May. Members will choose a date to visit Hippley Gardens at the May meeting.

Next month’s meeting will be held on May 22nd at 1:00 PM at The Family Kitchen and Smokehouse. Anyone interested in joining the club is invited to atten
