Alan Anthony Pettit, 77, passed away on May 5, 2024, at home in Wheeling, WV. Alan was born on June 6, 1946, in East Liverpool, OH, the son of Ronald and Thelma (Freshwater) Pettit. He grew up in New Cumberland, WV.
In addition to his parents, Alan was preceded in death by his brother Ronnie Pettit.
Alan is survived by his loving family, including wife Charlotte (Bradcovich) Pettit and children Douglas (Laura) Pettit, Shannon Sayre, Stephanie (Bill) Stauver, and Sean (Marlana) Bradcovich; grandchildren Katie, Maggie, Jacob, Hillary, Abbi, Addison, Caleb, Lily, Dominic, and Anya Jane; great-granddaughters Madilynn and Emilia; and sister Sonie Gilmer.
Throughout his life, Alan worked in the field of communications in various capacities as a lineman, cable splicer, marketing rep, systems technician, and field trainer for C&P Telephone Company, Verizon, Bell Atlantic, FiberNet, and Lumos Networks. After retiring, he worked part-time in electronics at Wal-Mart, in the hardware department at Lowe’s, and as an independent grass cutter.
Alan attended New Cumberland High School and was in the first graduating class of Oak Glen High School. He played football throughout school and was one of the state’s leading rushers and scorers as a junior.
He contributed in numerous ways to the community. He was a former New Cumberland City Councilman and Finance Chair, was active in coaching youth basketball, refereed high school football and basketball, and was a past member of the Lions Club.
Alan was a kind, supportive, and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother. He will be remembered and missed by all those who were fortunate to know him. He had a great sense of humor, always knew the right thing to say, and provided advice that never failed. He could still recite his favorite quotes and poems, some that he first read in grade school. He will be missed and will leave a lasting impact.
Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm & from 4:00 pm until the time of Funeral Service at 6:00 pm at the Altmeyer Funeral Homes Elm Grove Chapel, 154 Kruger St. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
