The Hancock County Commission is applying for a grant from the WV Courthouse Facilities Program to fund HVAC repairs for the original courthouse section of their building. Several weeks ago the aging system failed with the windows in that area which was constructed in 1929 not able to open, When the temperatures rose, those departments housed in the old courthouse were forced to limit hours as their employees were unable to work with high temperatures and no ventilation.
The air conditioning is expected to be repaired next week.
Hancock County Clerk Karan Valenti submitted a Freedom of Information Act form which will be given to those seeking to acquire governmental records. The cost of obtaining copies increased from .25 page to $1.25 for the first two pages and $1 for subsequent pages. While the raise in cost represents a significant increase, the cost had not been addressed in a number of years.
The Commission approved the new form, noting that it will require those seeking information to answer all the information required by the Ethics Commission.
