I initially voted no on the transition to new shelter management because I had not seen a detailed operational plan or contract. My primary concern was ensuring stability at the shelter, particularly as we look toward placing a levy on the Primary ballot. Without stability and public trust, that effort
would be undermined.
However, escalating social media drama that has unfolded since the RFP Vote last Thursday, makes clear that the current model is unsustainable. The actions of several former employees—who resigned rather than engage in solutions—highlight a troubling culture of irrational entitlement. These
individuals demand unlimited taxpayer resources while rejecting basic accountability and budgeting.
It’s unfortunate that some who claimed to be the only ones capable of caring for the animals chose to walk out on them. I’m deeply grateful to Caylee for stepping up with professionalism and compassion under extremely hostile circumstances.
Taxpayer funds must be allocated responsibly across all departments, especially law enforcement and emergency services.
I no longer support county government directly operating the animal shelter, I now welcome proposals from responsible third-party organizations that can bring stability, transparency, and long term sustainability to the shelter’s operation. That is what the animals—and the taxpayers—deserve.
