The Hancock County Commission voted to table the four items on the agenda for the Current Hydro Project. Commissioner Paul Cowey said they are awaiting information from the Hancock County Assessor. Items slated to be addressed were 1) Terms approved by the Hancock Board of Education at the August 25, 2025 meeting; 2) Current Hydro Lease Agreement; 3) Current Hydro Project Payment agreement; and 4)Current Hydro Project Resolution.
Current Hydro, LLC is awaiting their final license before commencing construction. PILOT (payment in lieu of taxes) agreements will need to be negotiated with the City of New Cumberland, Hancock County Commission and Board of Education to ensure the area receives funds from the plant. Current Hydro Governmental Regulatatory Affairs Director Hailee Kessel said several environmental issues need to be resolved and the owner of the land needed for a transmission line needs to sign a right of way. All other necessary signatures have been obtained from landowners.
In other business, the Commission:
**Approved payment of $21,973,983.00 in general county bills and $19,150.80 in purchasing card bills;
**Approved payment for Commissioner Paul Cowey of $462.12 for 676 miles traveled;
**Agreed to advertise for an individual to serve on the Northern Panhandle Community Justice Board;
**Approved paying Gary Jenkens his accrued vacation and personal days totaling 28 days in the amount of4,541.32
**Accepted the resignation of William Ross III, from the position of IT technician and approved paying him accrued vacation and personal days totaling 15.68 hours in the amount of $2,091.84
**Accepted the resignation of John Sorrenti from the Northern Panhandle Workforce Development Board;
**Agreed to advertise for a seat on the Northern Panhandle Workforce Development Board. The vacancy must be filled by a business representative;
**Accepted the resignation of Sergeant Brent Bergman and approved paying Bergman his accrued vacation and personal days totaling to 9.5 days and 0 hour comp time in the amount of $2,235.31
**Approved the Sheriff’s application for Preventive Resource Officer Grant for the October 2025 to September 2026 fiscal year;
**Approved hiring Danielle Best and Trinity Ellis as animal care technicians at the Hancock County Animal Shelter;
**Announced that the Commission will meet Sept. 25, 2025 at 2:30 p.m.
