The Hancock County Board of Education selected a new head basketball coach for Weir High at Monday’s meeting. Jason Engle was transferred from Weir Middle School head basketball coach to Weir High’s head basketball. T.J. Haught had previously been named head basketball coach by the Board, but a grievance filed put that action on hold. Haught attended the meeting along with a group of his supporters. He requested time to speak with the Board, either privately or publicly, and the Board went into Executive Session to discuss the matter. No action was taken when the Board went back into regular session.
Weirton Mayor Dean Harris and City Manager Mike Adams were on hand to discuss with the Board the advantages of swapping Sinclair Avenue for Red Rider Road. The School Board currently owns Red Rider Road while the City owns Sinclair Avenue.
