Sheriff’s Report on Newell Shooting

On 11‐19‐25 around 1 am the Hancock County Sheriff Office received a report of a man shot on Harrison Street in Newell. The initial call came in that the person was cleaning a gun, and it went off. Deputies arrived on scene to find two males and a female in the residence. One male was located in the living room while the female and the other male were upstairs. The victim was standing at the top of the steps holding a blood‐soaked towel to his head. Hancock County Ambulance arrived on scene treated the male with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to his head.
The male was taken to East Liverpool City Hospital and then transferred to UPMCin Pittsburgh. The male was stable condition when he was transferred. Deputies questioned the other male and female at the residence and determined it was not a gun cleaning accident. It was determined the two males were shooting rats outside a second story window with small caliber rifle and they were trying to get the rifle off of each other when it discharged striking the victim in the head. Mark Fuller the owner of the house was arrested for 1 count of Wanton Endangerment with a firearm and 1 count of shooting within 500 feet of a dwelling. Fuller was processed and transported to the Northern Regional Jail.
