BOE Meeting to Include State Officials’ Review of Hancock County’s Financial State

Concerned citizens may obtain clarification as to how Hancock County became a county “needing assistance” at Monday’s regular Board meeting, but they will not have an opportunity to pose questions.

The Hancock County Board of Education meeting, slated for Dec. 1 at 5:30 p.m., will include an agenda item for discussion with the West Virginia Dept. of Education’s Financial Operations Director & Finance Director Uriah Cummings. A review of Hancock County’s financial stats and the County’s compliance with WVDE requirements will take place. A discussion of school system resources and State aid funding formula and Hancock County School’s personnel in excess of funding; use of Excess Levy Funds and use of Bond Levy Funds will be covered by Cummings.

Any concerned citizen wanting to speak at the meeting may do so under the Delegations item on the agenda. Speakers are allotted 5 minutes and should sign up to speak 20 minutes prior to the start of the meeting. While speakers may express opinions during their 5 minutes and pose questions to the Board, the Board cannot respond to any questions during that part of the agenda. Speakers will also be cautioned that they are prohibited by mentioning any individual by name.

A facilities report on the agenda will include discussion and updates of construction project updates.

The meeting will be held at the John D. Rockefeller Career Center.
