BOE Recognizes Patriot Pen Winners

Students from Oak Glen Middle School who were winners in the Patriot Pen competition were recognized at Monday’s Board of Education meeting. The national contest is open to grades six, seven and eight with the focus of the 300 – 400 word essay being “How are you showing your patriotism?”

The six winners were: New Cumberland VFW – Kim Lee Mis; Alyson Taylor and Elizabeth Dicks; Chester VFW – Audrey Wells, Alice Munoz and Olivia Ware.

Personnel action taken by the include the following:

**Approving the resignation of Donna March, Third Grade Interventionalist, Weirton Elementary;

**Granting a leave of absence to Ashley Allen, Third Grade teacher, New Manchester Elementary;

**Approving Courtney Shinn as a countywide substitute school nurse;

**Accepted the following coaching resignations: Dallas Brewer, head boys soccer, Oak Glen High; Shane Talbot, assistant boys soccer, Oak Glen High; and Adam Davis, assistant football, Oak Glen Middle School.

**The following assignments were approved: Weir High – T.J. Haught, assistant boys’ track; Melissa Hudson, assistant boys’ track; and Melissa Hudson, assistant girl’s track;

**Granted a leave of absence for Tina Bartley, LPN/Aide, Weirton Elementary;

**Granted a leave a absence for Brian Sweeney, bus operator;

**Approved one dock day for Haley Davis, secretary, Weirton Elementary;

**Approved Ronald Dunlap as substitute bus operator;

**Transferred Amy Purks from substitute cook to Cook II, Oak Glen High;

**Transferred Charles Klar as Custodian III/GM, Weirton Elementary;

**Transferred Chris Mendel to Bus Operator #154

**Approval was given Oak Glen High Swimming Team to travel to Morgantown Feb. 18 and return Feb.20;

The Board will have its next regular meeting on January 12 at 5:30 p.m.
