Maddox McKay, age 18, is Oak Glen High School’s Lion Scholar for January 2026. Maddox is the son of Tony and Rachel McKay. He resides in Chester, West Virginia.
Maddox has served as class president on Student Council since his freshman year. Additionally, he is president of the OGHS National Honor Society chapter and secretary of his school’s Future Business Leaders of America chapter. Other clubs that Maddox is a member of include Science Club and Prom Committee. He has also participated in various programs throughout high school, including Governor’s Honor Academy, the American Legion Mountaineer Boys State, the Judicial Scholars Program, and the Youth Leadership Program. Through his extracurricular activities, Maddox has had many opportunities to serve his school and community. As senior class president, he and his fellow senior officers were recognized by the WV Secretary of State’s office for their work organizing a successful voter registration drive among their class. By registering 100% of their class, they achieved the Jennings Randolph Award for Oak Glen High School.
Maddox has maintained straight As throughout high school while taking on many challenging Honors, AP, and college-level courses. He maintains a 4.4 GPA and has been recognized as Distinguished by his school for his 1440 score on the SAT and 32 score on the ACT.
Maddox is a three-year letterman in baseball, and in 2023 his team won the WV AA Section Championship and were Regional Runner-Ups. He is also a two-year letterman on the swim team.
After high school, Maddox plans to continue his education at West Virginia University, where he will enroll in the Honors College.
