This is the 2nd candidate to be featured in Meet the Candidate. Brianne Bates is a Democrat. Both Eron Chek and Ronnie Jones are Republicans. The Republican primary is now a closed primary and only registered Republicans can vote on the Republican ticket. The Democrat Primary is open with no party affiliation able to vote on the Democratic ticket. There are 3 County Commissioners in Hancock County one from each magisterial district: Grant, Clay and Butler. The term is 6 years and the Butler Seat is on the ballot in the 2026 Elecyion.
My name is Eron Chek, I am in the last year of my first term as one of your Hancock County Commissioners.
The core reality I would like to share with voters is that Hancock County needs a Commission that will make choices for budget stability.
For decades, budgeting has been based on political pressure to increase budgets every year, even in times of decreasing revenue.
I support a responsible and disciplined Budget Plan to insulate taxpayers from tax increases and employees from unemployment. That is accomplished by using data to determine if small adjustments are needed when yearly budgets are set.
A stable budget is necessary to continue local industrial and domestic growth. Making choices that insulate future generations from insecurity is a core responsibility of each elected role. By providing public service within our means, we ensure that our elected representatives will serve future generations, not the other way around. As commissioner, my consistent goal has been to replace wasteful systems with responsible ones to accomplish more and spend less. I appreciate your continued support and partnership toward these mutual goals, and I am energized to continue this work. A CHEK vote is a vote for a steady path of progress without higher taxes.
