Special Employee Hearings
Pursuant to W. Va. Code §18-2E-5, the West Virginia Board of Education (WVBE) voted unanimously at its
January 16, 2026, meeting to declare an immediate intervention in Hancock County Schools. As a result of this action, the authority of the county board of education over school operations was suspended, and decision
making authority was delegated to State Superintendent Michele Blatt and/or her designee(s).
Acting in her capacity as the Board of Education for Hancock County, Superintendent Blatt, or her designee(s),determinations regarding the proposed staffing actions will be made exclusively by the State Superintendent or her designee(s) following the conclusion of personnel hearings scheduled for April 20, 2026.
