Personnel approvals or disapprovals were conveyed at the Hancock Board of Education meeting May 26. The State Superintendent had already taken action on the requests since the Hancock County Board no longer has the authority to do so.
An unpaid leave of absence was extended for Angela Salopek, cafeteria manager, for medical reasons.
**Retirements were approved for Dina Lyon, teacher, Weirton Elementary; Jane Moran, Special Education teacher – Allison Elementary; and Barbara Switzer-Ivery, Principal, Weir Middle;
**The resignation of Edson “Ted” Arneault as coordinator of transportation was accepted;
**The transfer of Matthew Shephers from substitute teacher to Director of Transportation was approved;
**Coaching resignations were approved for Megan Dziadyk, Weir Middle Girl’s Basketball Coach, and Clayton Flowers, Oak Glen High archery coach;
**Erin Harvey was appointed as treasurer for the Hancock County School District;
**The retirement of LuAnn McElhaney was approved;
**The resignations of Sarah Morris, cook Weir High, Pamela Miller – aide New Manchester Elem.; and Amber Groves – substitute cook, were approved;
**A leave of absence for Angela Salopek, cafeteria manager -Weirton Elementary was approved;
**The following unpaid days were not approved by the State Superintendent: Melinda Gruda, supervisory aide, Weirton Elementary; Rhonda Majewski, Supervisory aide, Weirton Elementary; Beverly Dawson, secretary, Board Office; Jaimie Moore, Supervisory Aide, Weirton Elementary.
**The following overnight trips were approved:Sparks WV Competition, Oak Glen High; Tennis Regional Tournament, Weir High; NASP National Tournament, Oak Glen High; Weir High Volleyball.
**Bond Levy Project: Approval of vendor for roof and skylight at Weir High: T&K – timber & nail. roof – $135,469.30, skylights – $85,000.00; approval of vendor for backstop winches at Weir High, Oak Glen High, Oak Glen Middle School and Weir Middle School – RM Huffman Company -$54,980.88
