OBITUARY: JAMES LYONS

James Earl Lyons of Weirton, WV, passed away at the Weirton Geriatric Center on Friday, July 29, 2022. He was 82 years old.

He was born on February 20, 1940, in Weirton to Earl and Bessie Robinson Lyons.

James graduated from Weir High School in 1958 and was drafted by the United States Army where he served his country with pride, following his enlistment, he worked for the former Weirton Steel for over forty-three years as a crane man.

James enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing a good game of Euchre, and dining out for a good steak as often as possible. He was a member of the American Legion Post 10, VFW Post 2716, the Weirton Steel twenty-five-year club, and served the city of New Cumberland as a council member. James’ family describes him as a stubborn individual, who was very direct, someone who did not mind giving you his opinion, even if it was not warranted.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his wife Dorisene Lyons, grandson Tommy Montgomery Jr., granddaughter Jamie J. Montgomery Speece, brothers Donald and Albert “Sonny” Lyons, stepson Joseph Serra and stepdaughter Lucinda Alongi.

Left to cherish his memory is son Lance (Rob Snyder) Lyons, daughter Leisa A. Montgomery, stepdaughter Rhonda (Geno) Quattrochi all of Weirton, grandchildren Erica Cline, Justin Ross Montgomery, and fiancé Victoria Haddon, and seven great-grandchildren, and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

The services for Mr. Lyons will be private.

Burial will be in Union Cemetery.
