The 2022 New Cumberland Christmas Parade was led by an impressive uniformed Color Guard from the New Cumberland VFW. Councilwoman Judy Bartley was named the Grand Marshall of the parade to honor her many years of service to New Cumberland. There were twenty five entries in the parade and twelve fire engines and ambulances from the area. The Oak Glen High School Band marched and the Shriner’s cars were closely followed by Mr.and Mrs.Claus riding in a beautiful sleigh. The parade route went north on Rte 2 and ended at the Fireman’s Field. A “walk through” was encouraged on River Ave adorned with Memorial Trees placed and decorated by families and groups. The Oak Glen High School Marching Band and chorus entertained the crowd after the parade in front of the decorated pavilion overlooking the river. Santa and Mrs.Claus sat inside the building, inviting children to tell them of their wishes and gifting them with a warm throw, generously donated by the New Cumberland Firemen.
The New Cumberland Lion’s Club gave out hot chocolate , the Methodist Church gave candy canes, hats and gloves. The Christian Church gave homemade cookies. All of these were free for everyone. Robert Bailey presented a hologram snowman singing Jingle Bells, great fun for everyone.
The New Cumberland community pulled together as one to put on a fantastic Christmas celebration. Thank you to the many people who gave their time to make this happen for New Cumberland. Special thanks to the New Cumberland Riverfest and Parade Committee for putting this event together.
