With Maintenance Supervisor Mark Diakowitz sustaining serious injuries in an accident the school’s maintenance department and administration has been pulling double duty to stay on schedule with the Weir High Baseball/Softball fields and the Auxiliary Gym at Weir High. Assistant Superintendent Dave Smith provided the Board of Education with a report on the progress at Monday night’s meeting.
Weir High (Baseball/Softball Fields):
Gale Martin and Aaron Crago have been progressing on completion of the Concession Stand and dugouts. The Man Door and Window – are cut and ready for install but waiting on Weirton Lumber for both to come in for them to install.
The Press box will be completed once the shingles, gutters and facia board are in – waiting on Weirton Lumber – which has told them that all will be in next week.
**Backstop and fencing for behind home plate will have to be bid out while rebid by contractors for completion of grandstand.
**The bid for the grandstand was $460,000 (only one bid came in) – it was turned down by Mr. Enich. We will rebid for completion by other contractors possibly by separate jobs to complete.
The benches will be the last install at the baseball field once all other work is done!
AUXILIARY GYM @ WEIR HIGH: LOMCBARDI CONSTRUCTION
Concrete and top soil have been removed.
Exploratory dig for possible existing fire main in ground came back negative. (I believe is good.)
The drilling contractor for the caissons is working to finish their current job so they can start this one. Once they are on sight – the general contractor will have a better time schedule.
(A meeting was held Tuesday to update the Board on the progress of Oak Glen Field of Dreams projects)
