Members of the Chester Garden gathered to decorate the tree are (L-R) Paige Rayle, Connie Hissam, Susie Wilson, Joann Lang and Donna Stevens.
The Veterans’ “Giving Tree” is now on display at Connie’s Corner Family Restaurant in Chester. Decorated by members of the Chester Garden Club, the tree is the group’s annual project to help brighten the holiday for the 79 residents of the WV Veterans Home in Barboursville, WV.
In the past, the tree was filled with cards listing specific gift requests from each veteran, but due to the COVID-19 restrictions in place this year, the home will not be allowed to receive packages. Instead small envelopes fill the tree, each one printed with the name of a resident of the home. Members of the community are invited to pick a name, place a gift card inside, and return it to Connie’s Corner by Saturday, December 12th. The gift cards will be delivered to the WV Veterans Home in time for their annual Christmas party on December 22nd. Suggested gift cards are Best Buy, Burger King, Dick’s, Kroger, McDonalds, Taco Bell, Target, Texas Roadhouse, Walmart, and Wendy’s.
