James Albert Gracie III, 72 of New Cumberland, passed at the Weirton Medical Center on January 1, 2021, due to complications of Covid-19.
A son of the late James A. Jr., and Doane Herron Gracie, Jim was born in Steubenville, OH., on September 12, 1948.
Jim graduated from Oak Glen High School in 1966, before going to work at Weirton Steel where he retired as a pipefitter and was a member of the 25-year club. An avid outdoorsman and shooter, Jim was a member of the Hancock County Sportsman Club, United States Practical Pistol Association, and the IDPA. He was a member of the New Cumberland Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite of Free Masonry Osiris Shrine, and the Grand Lodge of West Virginia Northern Panhandle Shrine Club. A proud veteran, he served with the 355th Chemical Company of the Army Reserves in Beaver Falls, PA., and he belonged to the American Legion Post 10 in Weirton. Like many who grew up in the 1960s, Jim was a gear head, belonging to the Mountaineer Classic Iron Car Club, and the Millwinders Car Club. He and his wife Susan enjoyed attending many car cruises and shows. Also, he had been a member of the former Fairview Presbyterian Church in New Manchester.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his son, Christopher Gracie; his brother, Chuck Gracie; and his in-laws, Gail, and Eleanor Jones.
Surviving is his wife of 47 years, Susan Jones Gracie at home; his brother, Ed (Jeanie) Gracie of New Cumberland; his sister-in-law, Andrea Gracie of New Cumberland; nephews, Benjamin Gracie, and Zach Jones; nieces, Rachel (Bill) Ansell, Emily, and Sara Gracie, and Samantha (Timothy) Larrick; great- nephews, Elijah, Levi, and Isaiah Ansell, and James Larrick, and a great-niece, Gracyn Larrick. He is also survived by his beloved kitties, Mini, and Squirt.
Private graveside services will be held at Mill Creek Hill Cemetery in Georgetown with Pastor Dennis Arnold officiating. His services are in the care of the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester.
