Board of Education

      The 2020 Teacher of the Year and Service Personnel was announced at Monday’s Board of Education meeting.  Jessica Little, a teacher at Allison Elementary, was named 2020 Teacher of the Year.   Little was presented the award by Superintendent Dawn Petrovich and Board President Dan Kaser.  She  was selected from a field of nominees from each school in the County.  Nominees included Megan White, New Manchester Elementary;  Monica Martich, Weirton Elementary; Amanda Schey, Weir Middle; Carrie Gillette, Weir High; Anna Mastrantoni, Oak Glen Middle; Brandy Smith, Oak Glen High School; and Steve Shannon, JDR IV Career Center.
   Cecelia Clark, secretary at New Manchester Elementary, was honored as Service Personnel of 2020.   
   Petrovich said that 51 % of Hancock County residents have been vaccinated and the Governor has opened up registration for vaccination for residents age 16 and up.  She noted that 100 % of the teachers and 60 % of staff in the Hancock County School system have now been vaccinated.  The vaccinations will now be extended to immediate family members of school employees age 18 and up with a clinic to be held this weekend.  

In other business, the Board:
**Accepted the resignation of Don Young as Weir High Assistant Baseball Coach;
**Transferred Constantina Hajionnou from Head Boys’ Tennis to Head Co-Ed Tennis at Weir High;
**Accepted the resignation of James Hixenbaugh as Custodian II at Weir High;
**Approved the transfer of Cody Starr from Custodian II, Oak Glen Middle, to Custodian II, Weir High;
**Approved payment of bills of $41,184,00 from Budget Supplement Fund 61 and $13,626.42 from Budget Transfer Fund 61;
**Approved the following overnight field trips: Oak Glen High Wrestling, April 9, WV Region I AA/A Wrestling Tournament in Fairmont; Oak Glen High Wrestling, April 20-21 AA/A Wrestling Tournament in Huntington; Oak Glen High Baseball, May 14, Bridgeport Baseball Tournament in Fairmont; Oak Glen High Girls’ Tennis, April 23, two-day tournament in Fairmont; Oak Glen High, Girls’ Tennis, May 7, two-day tournament in Cumberland, MD; and Weir High Bowling, June 18-21, National Tournament in Dayton, OH;
**Announced the Regular Board meeting will be held April 12 at 5 p.m.;
**Announced that approval of the Levy Rate will place at 4:45 p.m. April 20 prior to the Calendar Hearing at 5 p.m.
