Reading Nook by Kirsten Pierce

Swaney Memorial Library, in conjunction with the WVU Extension Service and the Hancock County Garden Club, has started a Free Seed Library! How does a seed library work? Gardeners “borrow” seeds from the library at planting time. At the end of the growing season, they save seeds from the plants & return a portion of the seeds to the library for next year’s planting season. It’s a way to have fun, build a community with fellow gardeners, & support people who are new to gardening. It’s also a sustainable program we can keep up and running year after year with your help. If you missed the open registration Monday, you can still come in the library anytime during regular business hours and get your free seeds.
If you missed our Read With Rover program Wednesday, we’re having another one at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 15th. Call 304-564-3471 to register your child to read with one of the certified dogs the trainers bring in. We’ll be holding Read With Rover twice a month. You can always check out Swaney Memorial Library’s Face book page for upcoming programs days and times.
Everyone looked stunning at Oak Glen High School’s Prom last Friday! But now what to do with that beautiful gown? Swaney Memorial Library will gladly take any formal/prom gowns for a future program we’ll be holding. Drop them off with the price you’d like to sell them for & we’ll do the work for you! If you have older gowns you’d like to donate, remember retro’s in! Let’s help those gorgeous gowns get a second chance to shine & help some lovely ladies get the dress of their dreams without making their pockets hurt!
Swaney Memorial Library will be closed Monday, May 31st, for Memorial Day. We will open at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 1st and begin our summer hours of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays; 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesdays; and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays.
As always, the library’s book sale is up and running. Hardback books are $1, softbacks are $0.50, and paperbacks are just $0.25! We recently had a large donation of non-fiction books so come in and see what interests you. We also have puzzles and DVDs for sale.
