Reading Nook with Kirsten Pierce

We hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend! Swaney Memorial Library is now operating on its summer hour’s schedule. We are open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays; 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesdays; and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays. Our book sale is up and running thanks to members of MOPS and OGHS’s NHS students who volunteered cleaning and organizing the sale. We have a large selection of fiction books for adults, young adults, and children. With a pretty impressive collection of non-fiction books, as well.  Hardbacks are $1; soft covers are $.50; and paperbacks are $.25. Stop in and stock up on great books to read over the summer.

Swaney Memorial Library is so happy to announce its new Assistant Librarian, Leah Mike. The youngest daughter of Cecil and Tina Mike, Leah is a 2021 graduate of Oak Glen High School, who plans on studying nursing. She attends the church, Father’s House, in Richmond, Ohio, with her family. Leah is an avid reader and can’t wait to meet you and talk about books!

We are so excited for this year’s summer reading program Tails and Tales! We’ve planned an awesome program for the kids all about animals for the younger group, with some sirens and gorgons thrown in for the older group. We will meet from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, June 14th through Friday, June 18th for stories, discussion, crafts, snacks, and special guests each evening. We’d like to thank the Hancock County Animal Shelter, Assistant Superintendent Davis of Tomlinson Run State Park, our good friends from the Read With Rover program, and Chris and PJ from PJ’s Magical Events for providing us with information and entertainment. Please let us know if your child has a pet allergy, as animals will be present at the programs. Tails and Tales summer reading program is free and open to children birth through 17. Please call 304-564-3471 to register your child!

Is your child a fan of Harry Potter and dreams of attending Hogwarts? Then you need to register them for Swaney Memorial Library’s day at Hogwarts program! It will be held at 4 p.m., Wednesday, September 1st, in true Hogwarts fashion. Upon entering the library, your child will go through Platform 9 ¾ and enter Hogwarts, where they’ll be sorted into one of the houses. They’ll dine with their house in the great hall before playing quidditch, making wands, hunting horcruxes, and taking potions classes. It costs $5 to attend this program and is open to all ages. You must register your child by Monday, August 2nd, so that we can deliver their Hogwarts acceptance letters before September 1st.
