Leon Swiger, 61, of Chester, passed away Sunday October 24, 2021 at Heritage Valley Beaver Hospital due to Covid-19 complications.

Leon was born January 12, 1960 in Salem Ohio. He was the son of the late Leary and Velma Swiger.

Leon graduated from Oak Glen High School in 1977. He began his career at the Postal Service. He then retired as a mail carrier and began working as a very devoted substitute custodian for the Hancock County School System. He liked to keep himself busy.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his grand dog “Spike.”

Survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Sara (Riddle) Swiger whom he married June 16, 1979 at Grace Baptist Temple.  Lovingly remembered by his son, Jeremiah Swiger (Serena Anderson) of New Cumberland and his daughter Amanda Swiger (Steven Veneski) of Washington, Pa.  Also survived by two grandchildren Kayla and Kylie Holmes of New Cumberland and five grand dogs and one special canine “Bella.” Also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Leon was a devoted husband and father. He was very proud of his children and what they have grown up to be. He loved to go camping at his camp in Reinhart, WV. He loved seeing and playing with his grand dogs. He was an active member of the Chester Newell  Sportsmen’s Club and former member of the Boy Scouts.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at the Nixon Funeral Home in Newell where funeral services will be held Friday October 29 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Locust Hill Cemetery.
