Jerry L. “Smoke” Stoval of East Liverpool passed at his home on Saturday, December 25, 2021. He was 74 years old.
Born in Steubenville on June 24, 1947, he was the son of the late Dale Stoval and Olive Porter Williams.
A familiar face around East Potter Sports, Jerry was a sports announcer for WOHI AM Radio in East Liverpool. He announced East Liverpool Potter and Wellsville Tiger Football games and co-headlined the Sports Connection talk show with Rob Pratte. A Potter fan through and through, Jerry was a team member of the football team and graduated from East Liverpool High in 1966. Jerry was the past president of the East Liverpool Athletic Hall of Fame, was a football and basketball referee, coached and played softball, and worked the chains for East Liverpool Potter games. A proud veteran, Jerry was a member of the First Cavalry Division with the US Army in Vietnam.
Surviving is his companion of 30 years, Nancy Hunter Adkins, his daughters, Jessica (Steve) Wells and Savannah (James) Delwiche of East Liverpool, Nancy’s Children, Heather Materu of Columbus, OH., and Scott Adkins of Sandusky, OH., his sister, Libby (Brian) Cole of East Liverpool, nine grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Also, he is survived by nephews, Ryan and Mark Stovall of East Liverpool and Dan Bourne of Wellsville, and a niece, Dee Bourne of East Liverpool.
Along with his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Stoval.
A memorial service will be planned for the summer. The Arner Funeral Chapel is assisting with these arrangements.
