OBITUARY: Don Greathouse

    Donald “Don” Greathouse, 75, of New Cumberland, WV, went home to his heavenly father on January 15, 2022.

Born October 17, 1946 in New Cumberland, WV, he was the son of the late Clarence and Rosabell (Jones) Greathouse.

He graduated in 1964 from Oak Glen High School; the first graduating class of OGHS.  He was a proud Veteran of the United States Navy. He retired from Weirton Steel and then continued to work at Sheetz. Don was a Supply preacher for the New Cumberland Christian Church and the supply minister for Newell Church of Christ.

He was a member of the New Cumberland Christian Church, where he served as an Elder, Deacon, Bible School teacher and a Children’s Church leader. He was also involved in Celebrate  Recovery. 

Don was very involved within the community; he was a member of the Lion’s Club where he received the Leonard Jarrett award in 2013. He also read stories weekly at the Little Blessing Pre-School, where they fondly called him Mr. Don.

He was preceded in death by four sisters, Rosalie Staley, Kathleen Ritchie, Shirley Patterson and Patricia Wilson; and two brothers, Herb Greathouse and Bob Greathouse. 

He is survived by the love of his life, Brenda (Hoder) Greathouse of New Cumberland; whom he married in 1970. He was very proud of his children, two sons, Jeff (Stacey) Greathouse of Sturgeon Bay, WI and Chris (Devon) Greathouse of Washington, PA; his daughter, Kari Keeper (Brad Smith) of East Liverpool, OH; seven grandchildren, Isaiah, Morgen, Bethany, Brayden, Rylee, Shaylyn and Chloe; a sister Beverly (Larry) Brandt of Colorado; two brothers, Bill (Janice) Greathouse of Tennessee and  Danny (Lisa) Greathouse of Weirton; a sister-in-law, Laura Greathouse, and a brother-in-law, Roger Wilson.

Don was loved and will be missed by all that knew him.

Visitation will be held Friday, January 21, from 1-3 and 5-7pm., at the Nixon Funeral Home, Newell, WV, where funeral services will be at 11am on Saturday, January 22, 2022. Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post 121 and VFW Post 6450 as part of the service. The service will be led by Rick Tinsky and Craig Greathouse.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting gifts made in his memory to Little Blessing Preschool and the NC Lion’s Club.
