Oak Glen graduate Kayla Gilmore traveled to New York in December to perform in Carnegie Hall…an experience known to a select group of musicians. The daughter of Teresa and Patrick Gilmore of Chester, Kayla is a Senior at Youngstown State University’s Dana School of Music. One of the oldest music conservatories in the country, the School is over 150-years-old; is rich with tradition; and has a very long list of Grammy award winning performers in its alumni.
The path to Carnegie Hall in New York began when Kayla’s flute teacher had her audition for American Protégé International Woodwinds and Brass Competition. She won first place in the Advanced Category (college students and professionals) and performed her concerto, Francois Borne’s “Carmen” Fantasy (on themes from Bizet’s Carmen) in New York’s Carnegie Hall.
