Wanda Elizabeth (Godwin) Six, 82, of Newell, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 19th in the morning hours after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, while surrounded by her family. She was born June 9, 1939, to John and Olive Godwin. She leaves behind her husband of 50 years, Wayne Six, the love of her life. Their love for each other was an inspiration for friends and family alike. She was an amazing wife, mother, aunt, grandma(gram), and great grandma.
Wanda was a 1957 graduate of Wells High School and truly loved her classmates and spent many wonderful times with them over the years. She loved helping with the preparations for all her Wells High Reunions. She was a life-long Newell resident, and she loved her hometown dearly. She was very active in her community. She was member of the former Newell Women’s and Jr. Women’s Clubs and a member of the former Newell Community Christmas. Wanda led an amazing life and was an encouragement to so many. Besides her immediate family she was known as mom or grandma to many including Joe Elder, Ed Burkle, and Morgan (Shroades) Lawley who were very dear to her. Wanda was an active member of the Newell First Church of Christ for over 50 years. She was very active with the church’s clothes closet and Vacation Bible School (VBS). She loved her Lord and Savior and shared the love of Christ with her family and those around her often. We are comforted in knowing she is in the presence of our Lord and Savior.
Wanda especially loved attending the sporting events of her children and grandchildren in which there were many. She traveled far and wide to attend as many sporting events as possible, she loved supporting the Oak Glen Golden Bears sporting events and the WVU Mountaineers. She was an amazing encourager and loved her family with a great passion. She will be missed by so many that knew her. She always took the time to provide an encouraging word and always knew just the right words to say.
