FIELDS, SPENCER, HORSTMAN ELECTED TO HANCOCK COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION

Three new members will take their seats at the July 2022 Board of Education. Ed Fields led the ticket in a seven-candidate race that saw Board President Dan Kaser edged out of his seat by 58 votes. Weirton residents Gerard Spencer and Jim Horstman captured the remaining two seats on the Board. Candidates and their totals are Ed Fields – 1,933 (17.14%); Gerard Spencer – 1,886 (16.73%); Jim Horstman – 1.614 (14.31%); Dan Kaser – 1,556 (13.80%); Phil Rujak -1,332 (11.81%); Christina Fair -1,118 (9.91%); Seth Chevront – 1,060 (9.40%) and Dr. Gregory Baldt -777 (6.89%).

The non-partisan election seats a five-member Board. WV Code stipulates that the Board must comprised of one member from each of Hancock County’s three magisterial districts (Grant, Clay and Butler), but no district shall have more than two members from a district. Current members are Larry Shaw (Grant) and Chris Gillette (Butler). New members and their districts are Fields (Clay), Spencer (Butler) and Horstman (Clay).
