COWEY PREVAILS IN COMMISSION RACE

Incumbent County Commissioner Paul Cowey retained his Clay District seat in a three-way race against Brett Lemley and Ted Arneault, Jr. Cowey received 1,071 votes (36.16%) while Lemley received 974 (32.8%) and Arneault 917(30.96).

Seventy five votes separated Karen (Baier)Valenti and incumbent Valerie Truax in the County Clerk’s race. Valenti received 1,426 (51.46%) votes and Truax received 1,341 (48.46%)

Veteran employee and current Circuit Clerk Sandy Casto retained her position with 1,936 (69.3%) against newcomer Fred Marella who garnered 854 (30.61%).

Hancock County’s turnout of 27.16 % was higher than the State of West Virginia which had a 22.73% turnout. With competitive Republican races on the ballot, 3,065 voters cast Republican ballots while 1,906 Democrats voted. Hancock County has 18,503 registered voters.
