OBITUARY: JOE SZUCH

Joe Antela Szuch of Weirton loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away at his daughter’s residence under the watchful and caring staff of Valley Hospice on Tuesday, September 13, 2022. He was 91 years old.

He was born on December 11, 1930, one of four children to Andrew and Irene Vargo Szuch.

Joe served his country honorably in the United States Air Force from 1951-1955. He was a member of the 1951 graduating class of Weir High School, the Weirton Steel 25-year Club, American Legion Post #10, VFW Post # 2716, and was a Protestant by faith.

Joe worked for the former National Steel Corporation in their Tin Mill for over forty years, he was a jack of all trades. He enjoyed being busy, a diligent worker who made sure his family was his priority. His love for his family went beyond the home, if neighbors or friends needed assistance, Joe was there to provide, no matter what the issue may be. A kind, old-fashioned man, he did what he needed to do to get the job done, doing God’s work on earth was a continual part of his personality.

He married the love of his life, Myrtle Glasure on November 16, 1957. They spent sixty-four wonderful years together raising their family, traveling with the Fun Seekers, and being faithful members of the New Manchester Grange, and Fairview Presbyterian Church.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his grandson Ryan Stevens, brother Andy Szuch, and sisters Irene Pirigyi and Grace Quinlan.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife Myrtle, son Joe Szuch and his fiancé Becky of New Manchester, daughter Debra (Joe) Hartman of Colliers, grandchildren Christina, Drew, Ryan, Brittany, Joie, Victoria, great-grandchildren Caitlyn, Levi, John, Rylee, Chloe, Rowan, Kaydence, Destini, Kiersten, Kandace, Kameron and Kase.

Joe’s request for cremation has been honored, and no services are planned at this time.

Burial will take place at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joe’s memory to the Hancock County Animal Shelter, 715 Gas Valley Road New Cumberland, WV, 26047.
