Ruth E. Smith of Newell passed at the Weirton Medical Center on Thursday, September 15, 2022, from complications of Pneumonia.
83 years old, Ruth was the daughter of the late Charles R. and Mary Eldora Torrence Ross. She was born in Beaver County Pennsylvania on October 20, 1938.
Ruth lived a full and well-rounded life. She was active in her community and church. She was a driving force in the Newell Community Improvement Coalition and the Hancock County Arts Council, and she especially enjoyed the Grant Street Union meetings. She was an involved member of the Newell First Presbyterian Church, now Trinity Presbyterian Church. Ruth loved attending her grandchildren’s sporting events, working crossword puzzles, watching Jeopardy, and taking walks through her neighborhood which she loved so much. She was a retired Phlebotomist at East Liverpool City Hospital and a 1956 graduate of Aliquippa High School.
Along with her parents, her husband, Ronald Smith, her son Doug Smith, and her brothers, Kenny, and John Ross preceded her in death.
Left with wonderful memories are her children, Leah Rae (Ron) Pieronek of Newell, David (Ladonna) Smith of New Cumberland, and Greg (Jill Durbin) Smith of East Liverpool, daughter-in-law, Julie Smith, and her grandchildren, Sarah Stewart, Emily, and Nicolette Bramer, Trey, Brennan, and Sean Smith, and Luke and Lauren Smith. In addition, one brother, Carl Ross of California, and seven great-grandchildren also survive.
Memorial visitation will be at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester on Thursday, September 22, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. Private interment will be at Shadow Lawn Memory Gardens. Celebration of Ruth’s life will continue at the Elks Lodge in East Liverpool on her birthday, October 20, 2022, beginning at 5:00 pm.
