NEED FOR NOISE ORDINANCE BROUGHT TO COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

Hancock County resident Terry Walker brought the problem of noisy neighbors to the County Commissioners Thursday.   Walker said the lack of a noise ordinance in the County has prevented law enforcement from taking any action on excessive noise.  A longtime resident of his neighborhood, Walker said that 20 years ago if there was a problem with noise you called county deputies and they came out and talked to the offenders.  Recently, however, when he called to complain, the deputies came to his house to tell him without an ordinance there was nothing they could do.

Walker brought language that legislators have tried to incorporate into the State Code for years, but have been unsuccessful in doing so.   That language was very restrictive according to Walker and he said he was willing to work with Commissioners in crafting something more reasonable.

“If you’re not one of the ones that is the problem, then you won’t have a problem with this,” he said.

Commissioner Jeff Davis said the Commissioners were aware of the issue and have asked County Prosecutor Stephen Dragisich to look into crafting language for an ordinance.

Hancock County schools went to the dogs during Halloween to raise funds for the Animal Shelter.   Weirton Elementary Assistant Principal Carla Carinci-Bells presented the Shelter with a $4,000.00 donation  raised through the Hounds for Halloween program at the County’s schools during a day when even the dogs dressed up.  Nichole Felouzis,  Director of  Humane Operations, expressed her thanks to the students for their continued support of the Shelter and its occupants.
