SCHOOL BOARD RECOGNIZES STATE WINNERS

The Hancock County Board of Education recognized three students  who had excelled at State competition in their respective fields.  Andrew Manteau of Weir High came in 1st in the State in Website Design. at thee Future Business Leaders of America Conference/Competition. Manteau was self-taught in website design according to the club’s sponsor.  Kayla Mazon, who was unable to be present, came in 1st in Intro to Business Communication. Manteau and Mazon will  now progress to the National competition. 

Elizabeth Rhodes, Weir High student, was recognized for being named the West Virginia State Journalism Student of the Year. Rhodes who has already had a childen’s book published plans to attend Columbia University.

The Board heard annual reports from the principals of Allison Elementary and New Manchester Elementary schools.

   Heather Wood and Ted Cromwell were approved as volunteer/chaperone for the Weir High School Academic Games.

In other business, the school took the following personnel action:

**Accepted the resignation of Kimberly Glass, professional accountanta in the central office, and Matthew Kopp, Science teacher, Weir Middle;

**Approved the assignments of Nicodemus Karas, countywide substitute teacher, and Casey Wright, professional accountant, central office;

**Granted one-half dock day to Kayli Ferguson, bus operator;

**Granted four dock days’ to Carolyn Puskarich, custodian II, Weir Hihg;

**Accepted the resignation of Carol Marino, Supervisory Aide/ECCAT, Weirton Elementary; Susan Fijewski, Weirton Elementary; Daniel Roberts, Custodian II, Weir Middle School; and Cathy Markowica, Supervisory Aide/ECCAT/AM, Alllison Elementary School.   All four employees are retiring;

**Approved as substitutes were Deedy Hebrock, cook; Sarah Morris, cook, and Jerry Bucci, custodian;

**Karla Lamp was approved for transfer from countywide substitute custodian, to Custodian II, New Manchester Elementary;

**The following Cook IIIs were transferred to Cafeteria Manager at their respective schools: Sara Swiger, Oak Glen Middle; Carla Long, Weir Middle; Cherie Asbury, New Manchester Elementary; Loueva Truax, Weir High; Lorie Bryan, Oak Glen High; Angela Salopek, Weirton Elementary; and Melissa McIntosh, Allison Elementary.
