OBITUARY: Fred Vulgamore

Frederick Bishop Vulgamore passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2023 after a second courageous battle with leukemia. The son of Welty and Becky Vulgamore, Fred was born on March 30, 1956. He grew up in New Cumberland, WV, where he achieved Eagle Scout and Order of the Arrow. He was a 1974 graduate of Oak Glen High School and played basketball there. He got his Associates Degree from Glenville State College in 1976 in Forestry. He was a Master Mason at the New Cumberland Lodge. Most of his working years were spent at the Bruce Mansfield Power Plant.
Fred enjoyed coaching youth basketball for several years at a church league in Weirton, WV. He loved baseball and as an avid Pirates fan, attended many opening days. As a kid Fred played Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball. In one game in particular, Fred hit a triple but stayed on second base, when the coach asked why he had stopped, he said he wanted to complete the “hitting cycle”.
As per his wishes, there will not be a funeral service. His ashes will be spread in the ocean off of the beaches he most enjoyed with his children, Andrew (Dana) from East Liverpool, OH, Fred (Michelle) from Rock Hill, SC and his adored grandchildren Linsey, Peyton, Brody, Riley and Jaxson.
Fred was the favorite nephew of Louise Vulgamore Cline of Texas. He will be greatly missed by brother Howard (Maureen) Vulgamore and sister Mary Jean (Bill) McIntosh, a niece and five nephews, many cousins and life long friends. Fred is preceded in death by his parents and his brother John, for whom he was a caretaker.
