Weirton, WV – The Top of West Virginia Convention and Visitors Bureau (Top of WV) has received accreditation from the West Virginia Association of Convention and Visitor Bureaus (WVACVB) for its excellent performance as a destination marketing organization. This marks the 17th consecutive year of accreditation for the Top of WV, as the organization continues to follow best practices in the industry. WVACVB outlines these practices in order for WV communities to be served most effectively through the Occupancy Tax.
“The accreditation process is updated regularly, holding each CVB accountable to its community,” commented Top of WV Executive Director, Rachel Keeney. “It’s a lot of work to complete the documentation for the accreditation application, and we were thrilled to find out our accreditation was renewed through 2025. Our goal is to continue being a trusted partner for the local hospitality and tourism industry, and provide transparency on how we promote Brooke and Hancock Counties as a destination.”
A few of the requirements for accredited CVBs include filing annual reports with all funding agencies; maintaining an annual budget with a mandated funding allocation of 40% for marketing, 40% for salaries, and 20% for other operations; developing a marketing plan for a 50-mile radius outside its location; and operating a visitors center for 40 hours a week, having a dedicated phone line, and a full-time director.
Rachel Keeney was presented with Top of WV’s accreditation plaque on May 19th by WVACVB President, Annette Gavin Bates. The Top of WV is pleased to continue encouraging tourism, promoting the Arts, and increasing economic activity in Brooke and Hancock Counties.
