- The Hancock County CEOS, Newview Club, will hold their regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, July 5th, at the Hancock County Senior Services Center on Gas Valley Road. Members are reminded they will be nominating officers at this meeting, with voting to be conducted in August. The meeting will begin at noon, following lunch at the center.July’s lesson will be on Serena Dandridge, daughter of renowned poet and author Danske Dandridge and Shepherdstown merchant and WV legislator Adam Dandridge lll. Serena was a talented artist and made history as one of the first women to be employed as a scientific illustrator; her illustrations and paintings of marine animals were included in various scientific publications, and on display at the United States National Museum in the Smithsonian Institution. Dandridge was also a sheep and dairy farmer, active in the suffrage movement and, perhaps, the original tree hugger.Wednesday’s lunch will be walking tacos, beverage, and dessert. The meeting is open to anyone who would like to come but, if you choose to lunch with the club, the normal Senior Center fee will apply.
