OBITUARY: OLIVE ‘KATHRYN’ BARNHART

Olive “Kathryn” Barnhart, 91, of New Manchester passed peacefully at her home on Friday, June 30, 2023, following a brief, courageous battle with cancer.

She was the daughter of the late Kenneth Lester Wise and Dessie Mae (Flaherty) Wise.  Kathryn was born at home in Wetzel County, West Virginia on March 11, 1932.

A devoted follower of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, she loved her faith as a member of the New Cumberland Heights Church of Christ in New Cumberland, WV. 

Along with her parents, Kathryn was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Joseph Eddy Barnhart who died on October 22, 2002.  Also preceding her in death were two sons, Joseph Harold Barnhart (infant) and Robert Edward Barnhart; three sisters, Dorothy Mae (Wise) Teets, Virgie Louise (Wise) Feola, and Violet Lucille (Wise) Parsons; and a brother Donald Lee (Archbold) Wise.

She will be deeply missed by her children, Delores J. Barnhart and Sharon L. Barnhart who resided with her, and daughters Patricia “Trish” (John) Disch of East Liverpool, Janice K. (Mark) Patterson of New Manchester, Linda S. (Dave) Martin of New Manchester; and sons Delbert E. (Sherrie) Barnhart of Lawrenceville, WV and Ralph I. (Diana) Barnhart of Cleveland, Ohio.

There are eleven grandchildren, Marcia (Rob) Walls of Lawrenceville, WV; Treena (Jimmy) Hall of Lawrenceville, WV and Megan Carney of Lawrenceville, Lisa (Roger) Shingler of East Liverpool, Ohio, Scott (Tammy) Barnhart of East Liverpool, OH; Matthew R. Disch of Cleveland, Ohio, John Eric Disch of Saratoga Springs, New York, Shane Patterson of New Manchester, WV; Bob (Sylvia) Burnette of Cleveland, Ohio, Anna (Troy) Burnette of Cleveland, Ohio and Ryan (Wendy) Burnette of Cleveland, Ohio.

There are eleven great-grandchildren, Tyler, Robbie, Braxton, Bryson, Teya, Peyton, Maddie, Gavin, Nicholas, Layla, Leo and Anna.

She will be sadly missed by many more family and friends.

Kathryn’s family would like to extend a special thanks to family, friends, Weirton Medical Center staff and Valley Hospice for their compassion and care during this challenging time.

The Family requests no home visitation at this time. The funeral service was held at 2 AM on Monday, July 3, 2023 at Turley Funeral Home in New Cumberland. Kathryn was laid to rest next to her husband in Shadow Lawn Memory Gardens in Newell, West Virginia.
