- “The WVU Extension Service and Public Administration program will be hosting a series of events in Newell and Chester, WV over the next 18 months or so that will afford residents and community members the opportunity to share their stories and engage in meaningful conversations about the future of the community. “Many quality-of-life goals can only be achieved through the combined efforts of residents and organizational stakeholders working together,” says Daniel Eades, Extension Associate Professor and Rural Development Specialist for WVU Extension. “Governments, businesses, nonprofits, and civic groups all play an important role in making [any community] a great place to live, work, and recreate.” Those involved in the Moving Ahead Together initiative look to promote community engagement by working and learning alongside residents in the pursuit of community planning and development projects. The Hancock County project aims to engage as many local stakeholders as possible – especially residents. Residents are in the lead concerning what happens; WVU will provide the technical assistance to facilitate the process. Through service-learning, we build a collaborative relationship that allows community members, students, and faculty to learn from one another, develop skills, and hopefully affect positive community change.
- The meeting will be held at the Family Support Center in Chester. Lunch will be provided. Those seeking additional information may contact Zachary White at (304) 564-3805 or via email at [email protected].”
